This being one of the most common types of infection it is expected that around six to eight percent of the adult population suffers from this infection.

Medical science has classified the nail fungus into four different types. Distal subungual onychomycosis is the most common form where in the nail bed as well as the underside of nail plate gets infected. There is the second type of infection where the fungus forms a white island on the nail place and is called White superficial onychomycosis. The third variety called Proximal subungual onychomycosis is not very common. The fourth variety is called Candidal onychomycosis.

Whenever you spot thickened and stained nail beds or roughened and nails with jaggy edges you should know that the nail fungus is working its way.

If you look at the treatment options for nail fungus, you have home remedies, laser treatments being tried out as well as the normal anti fungal medications and several other treatments. It helps to keep your nails short and dry as well as clean all the time. Wear proper socks that absorb moisture and keep your toes dry. Make it a habit to sprinkle antifungal powder on your fee and inside of your shoes. Above all build good body immunity.
